The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission earlier this month released a list of recalled, potentially dangerous products that consumers are more likely to use now that "spring has sprung."
The list of warm-weather-associated products includes play sets, swing sets, slides, grills, fans, gel fuel, tricycles, swimsuits and grass trimmers-demonstrating once again that no item, no matter how seemingly harmless, can be made unsafe by its manufacturer's neglect. A few particularly troubling examples:
Adventure Play Sets - The CPSC recalled 240,000 of these wooden play sets last June because it had received more than 500 complaints about the sets' wood rotting, breaking and causing injuries.
Uni-O Portable LP Gas Grills - More than 4,500 of these Chinese-made grills were recalled by the CPSC in January after the agency received 10 reports suggesting the grill can leak gas, igniting a fire and burning users.
Westinghouse Ceiling Fans - The CPSC issued a recall for approximately 7,000 of these fans in March. The agency had learned that the light bulbs accompanying the fans had too high a wattage, which could cause the fans to overheat or fail and thus start fires or electrocate users.
