How Safe Are Your Appliances?

GE has announced the recall of about 181,000 front-loading washing machines sold between December 2006 and February 2010. These machines pose fire and shock hazards to consumers because a wire can break and make contact with the metal part of the washtub while the machine is operating.

Apparently, GE hasn't learned from its mistakes. In 2008, the company had to recall 2,100 gas-powered dryers which also posed a potential shock hazard. And that same year, a short in a GE electric range caused a fire that damaged a home.

From cars to toys, we can't always count on our products being safe because some manufacturers would rather save money than invest in safety.
