A Baby Gear Maker Lets Product Safety Slide

When a parent straps their child into a stroller, they entrust that product with very valuable cargo. Tragically, for a few parents, that trust was betrayed.

Four children died between 2003 and 2005 due to a defect in some of baby gear maker Graco's strollers. They slid out of their seats into a too-small opening between the seat bottom and the stroller tray and were strangled.

The deaths prompted Graco to announce last month that it would recall the approximately two million strollers with the defect - namely, Grace Quattro Tour- and Metrolite-model strollers sold between 2000 and 2007.

But for the parents of the four kids who were killed as a result of the strollers' faults, the recall came five years too late.
